UPS Battery Replacement Cost Calculator

Estimate your UPS battery replacement cost

UPS battery replacement costs depend on UPS system size, battery string configuration, and total battery quantity.

Use the calculator below for an instant estimate, or check the reference table and formula further down the page to see how the numbers are worked out.

Instant Battery Replacement Cost Estimate

Typical range: $120–$350 per battery. Default is the mid-range estimate.

Typical range: $1,000–$5,000 depending on system size. Default is a mid-range estimate.

UPS Battery Sizing & Replacement Cost Reference

Typical DC bus voltage, battery string configuration, total battery count and estimated VRLA replacement cost by UPS system size. Most commercial UPS systems use 12V VRLA batteries connected in series across multiple strings to reach the required DC bus voltage and runtime capacity. Battery counts below are calculated from DC bus voltage ÷ 12V per battery, multiplied by string count — actual configuration varies by UPS manufacturer, runtime requirements, redundancy architecture and battery cabinet layout.

Table: UPS size, DC bus voltage, battery strings, total batteries and estimated VRLA replacement cost (AUD)
UPS Size DC Bus Voltage Battery Strings Total Batteries Estimated Replacement Cost (VRLA)
Small UPS (10–20kVA) 192V DC 1 string 16 batteries $2,500 – $6,000
Medium UPS (30–60kVA) 240V DC 2 strings 40 batteries $6,000 – $15,000
Large UPS (80–120kVA) 384V DC 3–4 strings 96–128 batteries $12,000 – $30,000
Very Large UPS (160–200kVA) 384V DC 5–6 strings 160–192 batteries $20,000 – $45,000
Enterprise UPS (200kVA+) 384–480V DC 6–12+ strings 192–384+ batteries $30,000+

Estimates are indicative only and exclude installation labour, freight and disposal. Battery string quantities, DC bus voltage and total battery count vary depending on UPS manufacturer design, installation configuration and runtime requirements — the figures above are a general guide for estimating replacement scope, not a substitute for a site-specific quote.

Quick UPS Battery Cost Formula

The calculator above does this automatically, but the underlying industry estimate is:

Estimated Cost = Number of Batteries × Average Battery Price + Installation

Typical ranges:

  • VRLA battery price: $120 – $350 per battery
  • Installation and commissioning: $1,000 – $5,000 depending on system size

Example calculation

40 batteries × $220 average battery cost = $8,800

Installation labour ≈ $2,500

Estimated replacement cost: $11,300

Why Battery Configuration Matters

Battery configuration directly impacts:

  • UPS runtime during outages
  • System reliability
  • Redundancy capability
  • Overall battery replacement cost

Proper battery sizing ensures critical infrastructure remains protected during power interruptions.
