Who makes APC UPS systems?
APC (American Power Conversion) is a brand owned by Schneider Electric. APC UPS systems are designed and manufactured under the Schneider Electric umbrella and sold in Australia through authorised distributors and resellers including Indigi Power and Cooling.
What is the difference between APC Smart-UPS and APC Smart-UPS On-Line?
The standard APC Smart-UPS uses a line-interactive topology, which corrects voltage sags and surges via an autotransformer but has a brief transfer time (typically 2 to 6 milliseconds) when switching to battery. The APC Smart-UPS On-Line (SRT series) uses a true online double-conversion topology with zero transfer time, continuously conditioning power and providing full isolation from mains disturbances. For servers, data centre equipment and sensitive loads, the On-Line topology provides a higher level of protection.
What is the APC Smart-UPS Ultra?
The APC Smart-UPS Ultra (SRTL series) is a lithium-ion version of the Smart-UPS On-Line range. It uses lithium-ion batteries instead of VRLA, offering a 10-year design life battery, up to 50% lighter weight, faster recharge, and better performance in warm environments. It is available from 5kVA to 15kVA in rack/tower form factors.
Can I replace the battery in an APC UPS myself?
APC replacement battery cartridges (RBC) are designed for hot-swap replacement without powering down the UPS. Most Smart-UPS models allow battery replacement while the UPS remains on-line protecting your load. We stock genuine APC RBC replacement batteries for the most common Smart-UPS models. For three-phase and larger UPS systems, battery replacement should be performed by a qualified technician.
