Power-Sonic PDC Series Deep Cycle AGM Batteries Australia

Power-Sonic PDC Series Deep Cycle AGM Batteries Australia

Batteries  /  Power-Sonic  /  PDC Series

The Power-Sonic PDC Series is a range of deep cycle AGM batteries engineered for long runtimes and repeated cycling, with a rugged plate design and special paste additives that deliver superior performance in deep discharge situations. Indigi Power and Cooling supplies the PDC range across Australia in 12V capacities from around 14Ah to 268Ah for mobility, marine, golf, medical and renewable energy.

The PDC Series is the sealed AGM answer to demanding cyclic duty. Where the general purpose PS range is built for standby and light cycling, the PDC range has been designed specifically to offer enhanced performance in cyclic applications, delivering long runtimes and a high cycle life across repeated deep discharge. Special additives in the paste ensure superior performance in deep discharge situations, and a robust absorbent glass mat separator and rugged plate design keep the battery dependable over many cycles.

As an Indigenous and Veteran-owned critical power and cooling specialist, Indigi Power and Cooling supplies the PDC Series alongside the wider Power-Sonic range and our critical power services. You get one Supply Nation and ICN Gateway registered supplier for batteries, chargers and installation, backed by hubs in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Why choose the PDC Series

The PDC Series pairs AGM safety and high energy density with cyclic endurance. The grid below sets out the features that matter most for deep cycle duty.

Built for cycling

Deep cycle paste and a rugged plate design deliver long runtimes and high cycle life across repeated charge and discharge, so the battery keeps performing where standby cells wear out.

Deep discharge performance

Special additives in the paste ensure superior performance in deep discharge situations, protecting capacity when the battery is regularly run down.

High energy density

A strong power to volume ratio yields unrivalled energy density, giving more usable capacity for a given footprint in mobility and marine installations.

Rugged sealed case

A rugged, impact-resistant ABS case and cover (UL94-HB) with sealed AGM construction allows safe operation in any position without adding electrolyte.

Certified for transport

Approved for transport by air with D.O.T., I.A.T.A., F.A.A. and C.A.B. certification, and UL recognised, so the range is easy to freight nationwide.

Wide capacity range

From compact 14Ah units to 268Ah blocks, the PDC range covers everything from mobility scooters to large renewable energy storage banks.

PDC Series model range

The PDC Series is offered in 12V blocks across a wide capacity range at the 20-hour cyclic rate. The table lists the main models. Ask us for full dimensions and terminal details for your application.

Applications

The long runtimes and repeated cycling of the PDC Series make it a strong choice wherever a battery is regularly discharged and recharged, including:

  • Mobility equipment and powered wheelchairs.
  • Golf carts and electric utility vehicles.
  • Marine house and accessory power.
  • Medical devices requiring reliable cyclic power.
  • Renewable energy and off-grid solar storage banks.

PDC deep cycle AGM vs DCG deep cycle gel

Power-Sonic offers two deep cycle families. The table below helps you choose between the AGM PDC range and the gel DCG range.

Table: Power-Sonic PDC deep cycle AGM compared with DCG deep cycle gel.
Attribute PDC (AGM) DCG (Gel)
Electrolyte Absorbed in glass mat (AGM) True gel
Peak current Higher Good
Very high heat Good Excellent
Best for General deep cycle, marine, mobility Hot, enclosed, high-vibration cyclic use

What makes a battery a deep cycle battery

Not every sealed lead acid battery is suited to being run down and recharged over and over. A starting or standby battery is built with many thin plates to deliver a big burst of current, but those thin plates degrade quickly if the battery is deeply discharged again and again. A deep cycle battery like the PDC Series takes the opposite approach: thicker, more rugged plates and a deep cycle paste that tolerate repeated deep discharge and recharge without shedding active material. That construction is what lets the PDC range deliver long runtimes and a high cycle count where a standby battery would fail within months.

The trade-off is that a deep cycle design is optimised for endurance rather than a single massive current burst, though the PDC Series still offers strong power density thanks to its AGM construction. This makes it a versatile middle ground: rugged enough for genuine cyclic duty in mobility, marine and solar work, yet capable of respectable peak current for equipment that needs it. Matching the battery type to the duty is the single most important sizing decision, and choosing a true deep cycle battery for cyclic work is what prevents the early failures that come from using the wrong chemistry.

Charging and looking after a PDC battery

Correct charging is the biggest factor in how many cycles a deep cycle AGM battery delivers. For cyclic use, the PDC Series is charged with a constant voltage in the region of 14.1 to 14.7 volts for a 12V battery at 20 degrees Celsius, with the initial current limited to a sensible fraction of capacity, then dropped to a float charge once the current tapers off so the battery is not overcharged. For standby or float service, a lower holding voltage of around 13.5 to 13.8 volts keeps the battery topped up without cooking it. As ambient temperature rises the charging voltage should be reduced, and as it falls the voltage should be increased, to avoid overcharge in the heat and undercharge in the cold.

Beyond charging, a few practices extend life. Avoid leaving the battery sitting deeply discharged, because that promotes sulphation that permanently reduces capacity. Keep the battery as cool as the installation allows, since heat accelerates ageing in every lead acid chemistry. And observe the storage guidance: a PDC battery can be held for up to about six months at 25 degrees Celsius before a freshening charge is needed, with shorter intervals in hotter conditions. Indigi Power and Cooling can supply a matched charger and advise on a maintenance routine so a fleet of PDC batteries stays ready.

Frequently asked questions

What is a deep cycle AGM battery?

A deep cycle AGM battery is a sealed lead acid battery that holds its electrolyte in an absorbent glass mat and is built to be discharged and recharged repeatedly. The Power-Sonic PDC Series uses deep cycle paste and a rugged plate design to deliver long runtimes and high cycle life in cyclic applications.

What is the difference between the PDC and PS Series?

The PDC Series is a deep cycle range designed for repeated discharge and recharge in cyclic applications, while the PS Series is a general purpose range for standby and light cyclic duty such as fire, security and UPS. Choose PDC when the battery is regularly cycled, such as in mobility, marine or solar use.

Should I choose PDC AGM or DCG gel?

Both are deep cycle ranges. Choose PDC AGM for general deep cycle duty, higher peak current and mobility or marine use. Choose DCG gel when the battery will run in very high temperatures, enclosed spaces or high-vibration conditions, where the gel electrolyte has an edge.

How do I charge a PDC deep cycle battery?

For cyclic use, apply a constant voltage charge in the region of 14.1 to 14.7 volts for a 12V battery at 20 degrees Celsius, with the initial current limited, then switch to float once current falls. For standby use, hold around 13.5 to 13.8 volts. Always apply temperature compensation and follow the Power-Sonic technical manual.

Can PDC batteries be mounted on their side?

Yes. The PDC Series is sealed AGM and spill-proof, so it can be operated in most orientations including on its side. Avoid mounting upside down. This suits mobility and enclosed installations.

Which PDC model do I need?

Match the voltage, amp-hour capacity, terminal type and physical dimensions of your existing battery. Send Indigi Power and Cooling the details of your equipment or current battery and we will confirm the correct PDC equivalent.
