Why Professional UPS Commissioning Matters
An incorrectly installed or uncalibrated UPS creates risks that undermine the entire purpose of the system. Common consequences of poor commissioning include:
-
Premature battery failure from incorrect float voltage or temperature compensation settings
-
System faults, nuisance alarms and unexpected shutdowns
-
Failure to transfer correctly during a real power event
-
Non-compliance with Australian electrical standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS 4044)
-
Voided manufacturer warranty
Professional commissioning by certified technicians ensures:
-
Correct system configuration to OEM specifications
-
Verified battery performance at the expected load
-
Bypass and transfer operation tested before go-live
-
Accurate runtime calculation based on real, measured load - not nameplate estimate
-
Full compliance and a documented audit trail

Do You Need an Electrician to Install a UPS in QLD or NSW? →
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a licensed electrician to install a UPS system?
It depends on the type of UPS. Plug-in models under a certain load can be self-installed, but any hardwired, three-phase or rack-installed UPS connected to a distribution board must be installed by a licensed electrician in accordance with AS/NZS 3000. Our team handles this - all installations are performed by qualified electrical personnel and include the relevant compliance documentation.
How long does UPS installation and commissioning take?
A single rack-mount UPS in an existing IT cabinet typically takes 2-4 hours. A full data centre UPS installation with battery cabinets, bypass switching and remote monitoring configuration can take 1-3 days. We provide a clear timeframe at quote stage once the scope is understood.
Can you install UPS systems in regional or remote locations?
Yes. We regularly deploy installations to regional QLD, NSW and Victoria, as well as remote mining sites and Pacific Island locations. We manage freight, logistics and site access as part of the service.
Do you install UPS systems you didn't supply?
In most cases, yes. If you have an existing UPS that requires commissioning, reconfiguration or battery replacement, contact us to discuss. Commissioning of third-party supplied equipment is assessed case by case.
What happens after installation - do you provide ongoing support?
Yes. We offer scheduled maintenance agreements, battery monitoring, emergency callout and end-of-life replacement planning for all UPS systems we install. Our goal is to be your single supplier for the full lifecycle of your power protection equipment.
Which Australian standards apply to UPS installation?
Key applicable standards include AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules), AS 4044 (installation of stationary batteries), and AS/NZS 3003 for healthcare environments. We ensure all installations comply with the relevant standards and can provide documentation for audit purposes.
